DECATUR, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning and lost a 4-3 decision in game one, then fell by a 3-2 score in game two of a doubleheader at Millikin on Wednesday, April 20.

With a losing streak now at five games, the Titans fall to 16-12 overall and 4-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Big Blue stayed atop the conference standings with an 9-1 league mark and they are 21-9 overall.

Freshman catcher Sara Daley had a home run and a double to fuel the Titan offense in game one. She staked the Titans to a 1-0 lead in the first with a home run and her double in the sixth rallied IWU from a 3-2 deficit.
After Daley doubled, sophomore shortstop Emma Clark grounded out. Sophomore Lauren Podgorski pinch ran for Daley and advanced to third on a single by freshman leftfielder Allie Riordan. After freshman Kaity Crane popped out, Podgorski scored an unearned run on an error by the catcher as the Titans tried a double steal.

Freshman Victoria Whitaker (4-5) was the losing pitcher as she relieved starter Molly McCready in the eighth. Whitaker went 2/3 of an inning and allowed two hits. McCready struck out 11 and allowed six hits in her seven innings. She now has 74 strikeouts, tied for 18th in an IWU career and in a single season.

The Titans managed five hits (all singles), two from Riordan, in game two as an error and a passed ball led to the winning run in the seventh inning. Riordan had both runs batted in and senior Kris Lee, sophomore Alyssa Vorel and pinch hitter Annie Lenz had the other hits.
Vorel (4-3) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in relief in the sixth but got the pitching loss as she threw the final two innings, allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one. Whitaker was the starting pitcher and allowed six hits and two runs in five innings, walking two and fanning two.

The Titans host Wheaton in a CCIW doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
