BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh by freshman Allie Riordan gave the Illinois Wesleyan softball team a 6-4 win in game one of a doubleheader against Augustana at IWU Field on Saturday, April 2. The Titans lost game two to the Vikings, 2-0.

The Titans are now 10-4 overall and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Augustana is 10-10 this season and also 1-1 in the league.

IWU trailed, 4-1, heading into the last of the seventh in game one. With one out, pinch hitter Annie Lenz singled to left field and sophomore Stephanie Polich reached on an error by the shortstop. Freshman catcher Sara Daley doubled to right center to bring home a run and make the score 4-2. Sophomore shortstop Emma Clark walked to load the bases against new Viking pitcher Courtney Ledezma. Freshman designated hitter Kaity Crane got IWU within one with a sacrifice fly to leftfield that scored Polich before Riordan sent her game-winning shot over the wall in right-center.

Sophomore Alyssa Vorel was the winning pitcher as she went 3 1/3 innings in relief of Molly McCready. Vorel allowed just one hit and struck out one as she improved to 3-0.

Polich got two hits and Clark got the other as Augie's Sheldon Ritzheimer and Ashley Yaros limited the Titans to three singles in the nightcap. Ritzheimer survived wildness as she hit a batter and walked five in her three innings as a starter.

IWU freshman Victoria Whitaker (2-2) allowed just four singles and only one earned run in six innings.

Illinois Wesleyan takes on Elmhurst in a noon doubleheader at IWU Field on Sunday, April 3.
