BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No.-21 ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team got four RBI in from sophomore Emma Clark and two-hit picthing in six strong innings from freshman Molly McCready en route to a 4-0 win over North Central in game one of a doubleheader on April 14. The Titans squandered a five-run lead and lost game two, 8-7.

The Titans are 16-8 overall and 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Cardinals are now 17-7 and also 4-2 in the CCIW.

Clark tied the school season record with her 10th home run of the spring in the fifth inning after freshman catcher Sara Daley had doubled. The record of 10 is held by Valerie Hackett in 2007.

IWU scored twice in the third when, with one out, sophomore Katie Bruins reached on an infield single and went to second on a ground out by freshman second baseman Erin Sweeney. Sophomore centerfielder Stephanie Polich walked and Daley singled to leftfield to load the bases. Clark brought home both runs with a single to rightfield.

North Central trailed 5-0 in the nightcap but scored eight runs in two innings to earn the split.

IWU scored two runs in each of the first two innings as freshman Kaity Crane drove in a run on a single to right before Clark scored on a Cardinal error.

Daley cracked a two-run homer blast with two outs in the third and IWU added an unearned run for the 5-0 lead.

In their third, the Cardinals had four hits, including a three-run home run by Laura Whitfield, and took advantage of a Titan error to make the game 5-3.

Daley hit her second home run of the game, a solo drive, in the fourth before the Cardinals scored five runs to take the lead for good, 8-6.

IWU senior Kris Lee doubled home Crane in the fifth for the Titans' final run as relief pitcher Vlasta Mangia allowed only three hits in two innings of relief.

Brianna Nelson (10-2) picked up the win, going five innings. Illinois Wesleyan freshman Victoria Whitaker suffered the loss for the Titans, allowing five earned runs in four innings of work.

The Titans return to CCIW action with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Carthage on Saturday, April 16, and a pair of games at North Park at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 17.
