BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Despite two home runs by senior first baseman
Kris Lee, the No. 21 Illinois Wesleyan softball team lost a 7-6 game to No. 4-ranked DePauw at the IWU Field on Tuesday, April 12. The Titans scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning in a 4-3 loss in the nightcap.
Lee had a two-run home run in the second and a solo homer in the sixth. Freshman catcher
Sara Daley hit a two-run homer in the seventh to get the Titans (now 15-7 overall) within a run.
Freshman
Allie Riordan also had three hits as IWU had nine hits to 14 for the Tigers (19-7-1).
Sophomore
Katie Bruins (4-1) was tagged for the loss as she lasted just 1/3 of an inning and allowed three runs on five hits. Freshman
Molly McCready finished the game, pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing nine hits and striking out two.
In the nightcap, the Titans scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning. With one out, freshman pitcher
Victoria Whitaker singles and
Erin Sweeney walked. A bunt single by sophomore centerfielder Steohanie Polic loaded the bases and Daley hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Whitaker.
Sophomore
Emma Clark singled home Sweeney and Polich with a single through the left side.
Whitaker (4-3) allowed eight hits in five innings with only one earned run and she struck out two.
Alyssa Vorel finished with two scoreless innings.
The Titans are back in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Thursday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against North Central.
