Titan Softball Sweeps St. Norbert and Simpson

ORLANDO, Fla. - Illinois Wesleyan sophomores Katie Bruins and Alyssa Vorel teamed to shutout St. Norbert, 8-0, on three hits and freshman Victoria Whietaker and Vorel allowed only six hits in a 1-0 win over Simpson in Orlando, Fla., on March 16.

IWU improved to 4-2.

Bruins (2-0) got offensive support from freshman first baseman Kaity Crane, who had two doubles and five runs batted in, and junior third baseman Kayla Mahoney, who had two hits and knocked home two runs.

Sophomore centerfielder Stephanie Polich scored the only run, an unearned tally, in the Simpson game in the first inning on an error. Whitaker (1-0) struck out one and allowed four hits in five innings of work and Vorel got the save, working the final two innings and striking out two while allowing two hits.

Polich had two of IWU's three hits in the game with Crane getting the other.

The Titans will play the College of St. Benedict at 9 a.m. and Rutgers-Camden at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, as the Rebel Spring Games continue in Orlando, Fla.
