Titan Women Win Fourth Straight CCIW Tourney Title

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team won its fourth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament championship with a 67-57 win over Wheaton at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Feb. 26.

The Titans, with a record of 23-4, will find out who and where they will play in the NCAA Division III tournament on Monday at 2 p.m. on NCAA.com.

The Titans will be making their fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance, have a 7-7 record in NCAA tournament play and have won five of their last seven NCAA games.
IWU will serve as the host of the NCAA final four championships March 18-19 at the Shirk Center.

Against Wheaton, IWU trailed by as many as six at 14-8 with 10:50 to play in the first half before taking control and going on a 14-2 run to grab a 22-16 lead with 5:37 left before halftime. The Titans led by 11 at 34-23 at intermission.

The Thunder closed to within three at 53-50 with 7:09 to play but could get no closer.

Junior Olivia Lett scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while senior Hope Schulte scored 15 in the win.

Illinois Wesleyan made 23 of 54 from the field (42.6 percent) and connected on four of 18 3-point free tries (22.2 percent) while making 17 of 23 free throws (73.9 percent).

The Thunder shot 34.5 percent (20 of 58) from the field and made four of 24 (16.7 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc. Wheaton made 13 of 21 free throws (61.9 percent).

Wheaton was led by the 12 points of Kelly Brooks and 10 from Brooke Olson.

IWU outrebounded Wheaton 41-38 and the Titans committed 18 turnovers compared to 17 for Wheaton.
