Titans Lose 82-68 Decision to #7 Stevens Point

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team lost an 82-68 home court decision to No. 7-ranked Wis.-Stevens Point on Saturday (Dec. 10).

The Titans fell to 3-4 overall while the Pointers improved to 8-0.

Senior Olivia Lett and junior Melissa Gardner each scored 11 points to lead IWU, who shot 40.6 percent (26 of 64) from the field and connected on nine of 26 (34.6 percent) from the 3-point area. The Titans made all six of their second half free throws after making only one of six in the first period.

Stevens Point shot 63.8 percent (30 of 47) from the field in the game and made 15 of 20 field goals in the second half. connected on 16 of their 20 free throw tries (80.0 percent).

Ashley Averkamp scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Pointers, who held a 32-27 rebound edge over the Titans. Brooke Allen added 13 points and Cassie Bandow had 11 points with five assists.

IWU trailed 8-0 early in the game before roaring back to take a 20-14 lead with 8:52 to play in the half. The Titans led 32-22 after a 3-pointer by junior Michelle Bilek with 3:32 to play in the half before the Pointers went on a 13-2 run to acquire a 35-34 lead at intermission.

At the start of the second half, IWU went ahead 38-35 before Stevens Point scored four straight points to get a 39-38 lead and they led the rest of the game.

The Titans are right back at it on Monday night at 7:30 at the Shirk Center, hosting NAIA entry Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers, who are 10-2, average 103.2 points and 16.3 3-pointers per game.
