BLOOMNGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team shot 57 percent from the field and breezed past Elmhurst, 81-59, on Saturday, January 15, at the Shirk Center.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Bluejays slipped to 6-9 overall and 1-3 against the league.

The Titans had four players score in double figures, led by seniors Hope Schulte and Nikki Preston with 13 each. Senior post players Stacey Arlis and Sarah Cotner each contributed 10 points as 12 IWU players scored in the win.

IWU shot .569 from the field (29 of 51) and connected on seven of 16 3-point field goals (.438) while Elmhurst shot only .305 from the field (18 of 59) and was seven-for-24 in 3-point field goal tries (.292). The Titans made 16 of 21 free throws (.762) and Elmhurst made 16 of 19 (.842).

Elmhurst held a 35-33 edge in rebounds against Illinois Wesleyan as Cotner led IWU with six. Meghan Merklein and Stephanie Mitchell each gathered in six boards for the Bluejays. Kim Schwerdtmann scored nine points to lead the Bluejays and Merklein added eight.

IWU committed 20 turnovers and Elmhurst had 21.

Illinois Wesleyan next hosts Wheaton at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Shirk Center.
