DECATUR, Ill. - The No. 9-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team went on a 14-0 run in the first half to take a commanding lead and claimed a 77-59 win over Millikin at the Griswold Center in Decatur on Tuesday, Jan. 11.
The Titans, who trailed 15-9 with 12:08 to go in the first half, scored the next 14 points to take a 23-15 lead and led by 18 at halftime (41-23). Their largest lead was 24 with 14:24 to play in the game.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Big Blue is now 2-1 in the CCIW and 10-4 overall.
In a balanced effort, four Titans scored in double figures, led by senior
Nikki Preston with 14, junior
Olivia Lett with 13 points, sophomore
Melissa Gardner came off the bench to add 12, and senior
Stacey Arlis with 10.
IWU shot .561 from the field (32 of 57) and connected on 10 of 18 3-point field goals (.556) while the Big Blue shot only .418 from the field (23 of 55) and was 6-for-16 in 3-point field goal tries (.375).
Illinois Wesleyan outrebounded Millikin, 30-24, as senior
Hope Schulte and Arlis each had five caroms. IWU was guilty of 21 turnovers while forcing Millikin into 18.
The Big Blue got 17 points put of Nikki Tipsword and 14 from Julia Robert.
Illinois Wesleyan next hosts CCIW foe Elmhurst at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.
