Titan Softball to Indianola, Iowa for NCAA Regional Play

The Illinois Wesleyan softball team (30-14) earned the regional's No. 2 seed and will meet Fontbonne (24-15) in the first round of the NCAA Division III First Round Regional at Indianola, Iowa (Simpson College) at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.

The first game of the day will be at 12 Noon, featuring top seed and No. 8-nationally-ranked Linfield (Ore.) (35-5) playing  the University of Chicago (24-13-1). At 2 p.m., No. 4-seed Central (Iowa), with a 30-12 record and a No. 15 national ranking, will play No. 5 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (33-8), champions of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference.
The 4 p.m. game will pit the regional's No. 3 seed and host school, Simpson (31-10 and No. 14 in Division III), who will face No. 6-seed St. Thomas (Minn.) (37-6).

The regional continues with four games on Friday, May 14, four games on Saturday, May 15, two games on Sunday, May 16, with a final game, if needed, on Monday, May 17.

Illinois Wesleyan won three games Sunday to stave off elimination and win the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament and earn the league's automatic qualification into the 2010 60-team NCAA tournament field. This is Illinois Wesleyan's fourth straight appearance and 10th overall showing in the NCAA Division III tournament.
The Titans won their second straight and sixth overall CCIW tournament championship and this is IWU's fifth straight 30-win season and the 13th since the 1991 team was the first to win 30.

The Titans split with Fontbonne earlier this season at IWU Tournament, losing a 1-0 decision to the Griffins on April 9 before winning 2-1 the following day.

A total of four teams from the CCIW were chosen to play in the NCAA tournament, making this the first year more than two CCIW teams have qualified for the championship.
At the Wisconsin-Whitewater Regional on Thursday, No. 5-seed Carthage (24-13) will play Alma College (30-9) while No. 6-seed Augustana (30-13) will meet the University of Redlands (34-12).

North Central (31-12) was assigned to the Mideast Regional at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
