WHEATON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team did not allow a run in winning a pair of games at Wheaton on Saturday, April 17. The Titans won the first game 9-0 and won the finale 3-0.
in a CCIW doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan. Illinois Wesleyan is now 21-9 on the year and 7-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Wheaton fell to 18-16 overall, with a 2-6 mark in conference play.
In the first game, Illinois Wesleyan scored nine runs on 11 hits and scored six in the top of the fifth. Senior
Christy Engel (6-5) was the winning pitcher, striking out six and allowing three hits in five innings. She also helped herself with two runs batted in. Freshmen
Stephanie Polich and
Alyssa Vorel each had two hits and
Katie Bruins was three-for-three with a double and two RBI.
Illinois Wesleyan accomplished the sweep by winning game two with a 3-0 victory on only four hits. The Titans broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Titans scored three runs. Engel led off with a walk and senior shortstop
Allison Ward singled to left field and advanced to second on the throw while Engel advanced to third. Sophomore third baseman
Kayla Mahoney then doubled home both runners and eventually scored on an
Annie Lenz single up the middle.
Bruins improved to 5-2 this season in the circle as she struck out eight in six innings and
Lauren James struck out three in the seventh to earn a save.
The Titans play a pair of games at Elmhurst on Sunday, April 18.
