IWU Softball Drop Doubleheader at Washington U.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team lost a pair of games at Washington U. on Saturday, March 27, falling 2-0 in the opener and 5-1 in the second game.

The 18-4 Bears have won seven in a row, 10 of 11, and are ranked No. 18 in Division III while Illinois Wesleyan slipped to 9-5.

Senior Christy Engel allowed only one hit but the Titans could manage only leadoff singles in the third and seventh in a 2-0 loss in the first game.
Engel got a single in the third and Kris Lee singled to lead off the seventh. No IWU baserunner advanced past second base against Bears' starter Claire Voris.
Engel fell to 2-3 as she struck out nine and walked six, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.

The Titans got five hits in the second game with two coming from Kayla Mahoney and one each from Stephanie Polich, shortstop Allison Ward and pitcher Alyssa Vorel.
IWU scored its lone run in the fourth when Vorel singled and Mahoney doubled to left center. A sacrifice fly to rightfield by Lee scored Vorel.

Vorel (4-1) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out five in five innings while Katie Bruins allowed two runs on four hits and struck out one in one inning in the circle.
