NEW YORK, New York - After taking nearly four hours to travel the eight miles from their hotel in Newark into New York City, the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team won, 75-71, at Baruch College on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The No. 15-ranked Titans, who led 41-30 at halftime and by as many as 19 at 59-40 with 10:58 left in the game, improved to 7-3 while the Bearcats are also now 7-3. The game began late due to the Titans' traffic woes and was postponed from the originally-scheduled previous day because of the East Coast snowstorm and air traffic snarls.

Senior Stacey Arlis made 10 of 17 field goals and finished with a game-high 22 points while senior Nikki Preston scored 13 points and senior Sarah Cotner came off the bench to score 10, going five of six from the field. IWU's bench players outscored Baruch's, 28-5.

Junior guard Brittany Hasselbring led IWU with a career-high nine rebounds as the Titans were outrebounded, 44-42.

All five Baruch starters scored in double figures, led by Monique Salmon with 17. Megan Bouwens collected a game-high 14 boards. Baruch led by six at 13-7 with 15:08 before halftime but IWU scored the next nine points to lead 16-13 and never trailed the rest of the game.

Illinois Wesleyan made 31 of 69 from the field (.449) and connected on four of 13 3-point free tries (.308) while making nine of 13 free throws (.692).

The Bearcats shot .358 (24 of 67) from the field and made five of 17 (.294) from beyond the 3-point arc. Baruch made 18 of 23 free throws (.783) and admitted to 18 turnovers, three more than the Titans.

Illinois Wesleyan will meet No. 3-ranked Kean College (9-1) at Harwood Arena in Union, N.J., at 12 p.m. Central time on Friday, December 31.
