BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Four players scored in double figures, led by the 17 points of junior Nikki Preston, as No. 1 ranked Illinois Wesleyan got all over No. 8 ranked Carthage, 76-48 at the Shirk Center on Jan. 9.

Senior Christina Solari scored 12 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Titans outrebounded the Lady Reds, 44-26. Juniors Hope Schulte and Stacey Arlis each contributed 10 points as IWU improved to 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Titans pulled away from a 17-14 lead at the 11:57 mark of the first half when Preston connected on a 3-pointer and, after being fouled on the shot, made the free throw for a 4-point play to give IWU a 21-14 lead. IWU led by a 26-16 score with 9:39 and led by as many as 23 points in the first half (45-22) with 1:55 to go before intermission. Leading 31-20, the Titans closed out the half on a 14-3 run to lead by 22 points at the break, 45-23.

In the second half, the Lady Reds got within 17 (47-30) with 17:47 to play before the Titans went back up by 23, 53-30, at 14:57. With the score 47-30 mark, the Titans had a 15-0 run to lead by 32 at 62-30 with 12:42 left in the game.

The Titans shot .483 for the game from the field (29 of 60), including 59 percent in the second half (16 of 27) while Carthage shot 34 percent in the game (15 of 44) from the floor.

The Lady Reds, who committed 30 turnovers, fell to 11-2 overall, 1-1 in the CCIW. They got 11 points each from Diana Jacklin and Heather Gilmore.

IWU hosts Millikin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
