The Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team earned its first win of the season, a 5-4 conference decision over North Central in Naperville, Ill., on Sept. 5. The Titans (1-3) fell to St. Francis, 6-3, in the day's other match.
Freshmen
Helen Alex and
Liz Exo were singles winners against the Cardinals and teamed to win at No. 1 doubles over Cory Schillerstrom and Alicia Degrado, 8-4. At No. 1 singles, Alex defeated Schillerstrom, 7-5, 6-2, while Exo beat Liz Micheletti at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The other singles winner against North Central was
Cassie Devore at No. 2, who also teamed with
Cate Hunter for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Against the University of St. Francis, Alex and Exo again teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, beating Katie Kipping and Danielle Emola, 8-5.
Sarah Wilson was the lone singles winner, taking the No. 2 match from Corinne Lutz, 6-4, 4-6 (11-9). Wilson also won her doubles match at No. 2 alongside
Alissa Goetz, defeating the team of Emily Zajda and Agnez Belza, 9-7.
