Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team improved to 16-1 overall with a nonconference sweep of the University of Chicago on April 8. IWU won by scores of 4-1 and 5-0.
In game one, the Titans broke a 1-1 tie with three seventh inning runs to win 4-1.
Junior
Christy Engel improved to 9-1 as she allowed six hits and struck out four. Senior outfielder
Monica Urban had three hits, junior shortstop
Allison Ward had two hits and two RBI and freshman third baseman
Kayla Mahoney had two hits.
In the three-run seventh, Mahoney singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jordan Menendez. Urban singled, sending Mahoney to rhird and then she scored on a base hit by
Lisa Narotsky. Ward singled home Urban and
Natalie Chase singled to load the bases before
Kris Lee walked to score Narotsky.
In game two, senior
Val Hackett (5-0) was the winning pitcher, going six innings and allowing two hits while striking out five.
Chase had three hits and two stolen bases and Lee had two hits. Narotsky also had two runs batted in.
