CHICAGO, Ill. - The No. 12-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team became the first to go undefeated in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season since 1996 with a doubleheader sweep of North Park on April 29 in Chicago.

The Titans improved to 30-3 overall and finished 14-0 in the CCIW. The last team to go unbeaten was Augustana in 1996, when the Vikings were 12-0.

IWU managed only three hits in the first game, winning 1-0 on a one-hitter by Christy Engel. The Titans scored their only run in the first inning when second baseman Lisa Narotsky reached and scored on an error by the rightfielder.

The Titans won the nightcap, 5-1, behind the four-hit complete game of Val Hackett. IWU scored two in the first when Monica Urban singled and stole second and went to third on a ground out. Hackett doubled home Urban and scored herself on a single by Kris Lee.
IWU tacked on three more in the fourth when Natalie Chase and Jen Monaco singled. Maggie Olson drove home Chase and Urban singled home Monaco. Hackett hit into a fielder's choice to score Urban two batters later.

Illinois Wesleyan, the No. 1 seed in the CCIW tournament, will host Carthage at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1 in the tourney opening round.
