Box Score 2 The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won a pair of games against North Central, taking game one, 3-2, with a run in the seventh, and winning the nightcap, 9-0.
The Titans are 22-3 overall and improved to 8-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Cardinals fall to 15-9, 7-3 CCIW.
In game one, IWU scored two in the fourth when senior outfielder
Sarah Carlson singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice by senior outfielder
Natalie Chase. With two outs, junior pitcher
Christy Engel singled to score Carlson and senior outfielder
Monica Urban had one of her three hits to score Engel, who had advanced to second on a passed ball.
With the game tied, 2-2, in the seventh, Urban led off with a single went to second on a bunt by junior second baseman
Lisa Narotsky and scored on a single by junior shortstop
Allison Ward.
Engel (12-2) was the winning hurler, striking out five and allowing six hits.
In the second game, senior pitcher
Val Hackett (8-1) struck out eight in the game shortened to five innings. The Titans led 3-0 heading into the fifth when they erupted for six to close out the game. Ward had a two-run homer and Hackett helped herself with three runs batted in. Urban had three more hits with a triple.
