KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won a pair of conference games at Carthage, taking the first game 2-1 and the nightcap 5-2 in Kenosha, Wis., on April 15.

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 20-3 overall and 6-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Lady Reds fell to 16-8 overall and 5-5 in the CCIW.

In game one, the Titans took a 1-0 lead in the first on an unearned run as senior Monica Urban reached on an error by Carthage first baseman Jacquelyn Tassone. Urban stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Allison Ward. IWU went ahead 2-0 in the fifth when senior Sarah Carlson singled, moved to second on a bunt and scored on a single by freshman third baseman Kayla Mahoney. Junior Christy Engel (11-2) was the winning pitcher as she allowed one run on six hits and struck out eight while walking only two. Kelsey Epping (10-3) took the loss.

In game two, Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI-single by Mahoney and the Titans made it a 2-0 game in the fourth on an RBI double by Mahoney. IWU scored three in the sixth to go ahead 5-0 when Valerie Hackett led off with a home run. Engel and Urban followed with RBI-singles. Hackett (7-1) was the inning pitcher, allowing two runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
