IWU's NCAA Division III Tournament Sectional Round Web Site
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The 29-0 Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team will host the sectional round of the NCAA Division III tournament, playing Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Washington U. (Mo.) and St. Benedict play the sectional opener at 6 p.m.
Tickets, all general admission, will be $8 for adults and $5 for students with ID, senior citizens, and children (free for children under 2). No passes will be accepted.
The Titans advanced to the round of 16 for the first time in school history with an 80-61 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on March 7 at the Shirk Center. This is IWU's third straight NCAA Division III appearance and second year in a row of hosting the first and second rounds.
The Pointers (26-3) defeated Concordia (Wis.) by a 78-58 score to earn their spot in the sectional. Wis.-Stevens Point is led by Britta Petersen with 14.4 points per game and Jessi Sporle adds 10.5 points. The Pointers have won two Division III championships (1987, 2002) and are in the tourney for the second straight year and sixth time overall.
Washington University (23-4), making its record 20th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament, improved to 46-17 all-time in postseason play with an 83-57 home court win over Transylvania. The Bears are making their 12th sectional appearance in school history, and first since 2007, when they were the national runner-up.
The College of Saint Benedict upset No. 10-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 67-59 in its second round game. Senior ArielTauer had a double-double, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Amy Stifter contributed 15 points, while Laura Canton had 11 points and Danielle Frank grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Stifter, Canton and Frank are all sophomores.
