MONMOUTH, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan lost its first softball game of the season, 3-2, at Monmouth before bouncing back to claim a 5-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.
Illinois Wesleyan (11-1) led 2-0 after single runs in the fourth and sixth in game one. In the fourth,
Allison Ward doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kris Lee in the fourth. In the sixth, Ward walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a
Val Hackett single.
But Monmouth rallied with three runs in the seventh to earn the win. Brittany Forney walked and scored on a double by Morgan Seiler. After a ground out Seiler scored to tie the game on a wild pitch by
Christy Engel, who then walked the next two hitters. Another wild pitch put runners at second and third and the winning run came home when Maggie Dort reached on a fielder's choice.
In game two, Hackett allowed two hits in six innings and
Lauren James pitched a hitless seventh. The Titans scored three in the first inning on three hits and got two more in the fifth when freshman
Kayla Mahoney singled home a pair of runs.
