Hackett Throws No-Hitter In IWU Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior Val Hackett threw a no-hitter against Framingham State as Illinois Wesleyan opened its softball season with a pair of 5-0 wins at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday, March 15 in Orlando, Fla.

Hackett walked two and struck out seven in her no-hitter and helped her own cause with two hits, including a home run, and two runs batted in.

Natalie Chase also had two of the Titans' six hits.

Christy Engel allowed only two hits in the IWU 5-0 win over Wisconsin-River Falls. She walked two and struck out nine.

Offensive support came from senior Monica Urban with two hits and two stolen bases, junior Allison Ward with two hits, including a double, and senior Sarah Carlson had two runs batted in.

IWU plays Westminster at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
