BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team downed Carthage, 75-55, on Saturday, Feb. 28 to repeat as College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champions and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament next week.
The Titans set a women's record for wins in a season, improving to 27-0, and got 18 points and a game-high eight rebounds from junior
Christina Solari, the league's "Player of the Year." Senior
Claire Sheehan added 14 points with seven boards and sophomore
Stacey Arlis contributed 13 points.
The Titans shot 47 percent from the field (27 of 57) and forced 14 Lady Reds turnovers while committing only eight. IWU scored 18 points off turnovers and had 34 points in the paint.
Carthage (18-9) outrebounded IWU, 39-37, and had 17 points off the bench from Rosie Dorn and 13 points from Lisa Gartelos. The Lady Reds managed only one of 17 3-point field goal attempts.
