Titans Escape With Win at Elmhurst

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan rallied from 20 points behind with 15:26 to play to claim an 81-75 win at Elmhurst on Tuesday, Feb. 24. The Titans improved to 25-0 overall and 14-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the first league champion since 1998 to go undefeated.

The Titans trailed 38-24 at halftime and by a 52-32 score at the 15:26 mark before outscoring the Bluejays, 49-23, the rest of the way to escape with the win.

Five Titans were in double figure scoring, led by the 16 points and 14 rebounds from junior Christina Solari and 16 points out of sophomore Stacey Arlis. Senior Claire Sheehan scored 14, senior Mallory Heydorn had 13 and sophomore Hope Schulte contributed 10.

Wesleyan was outrebounded, 39-31, but forced 33 Bluejay turnovers. IWU shot .456 from the field (31 of 68) with five 3-point field goals and managed just 14 of 24 from the free throw line (.583).

Elmhurst (14-11, 7-7 CCIW) got 27 points from Lyndsie Long and 22 points and 12 rebounds out of Meghan Merklein. The Jays were 31 of 56 from the floor (.554).

IWU serves as host of the CCIW tournament on Feb. 27-28 and will play North Central (12-12, 7-7 CCIW) at 8 p.m. Friday. Wheaton (16-9, 11-3 CCIW) will face Carthage (17-8, 9-5) in the first semifinal game at 6 p.m. and the winners will meet in the title game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
