Cross Country Earns a Second and Third Place Team Finish at the Titan Opener

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams began its 2022 slate by hosting the Titan Opener at Maxwell Park in Normal, Ill. Thursday, Sept. 1. The women ran a two-mile race, while the men tackled the three-mile course. The women's team finished with 47 points, good for second. The men garnered 97 points for a third-place finish. 

Heartland took home first in both races, as the women notched 45 points, while the men generated 19 points. 

On the women's side, sophomore Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) sprinted her way to a first-place finish, good for her first collegiate victory, as the Libertyville, Ill. native crossed the finish line with a clip of 12:06.78, she topped the field of 67 by over eight seconds.

In her first collegiate race, freshman Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) posted an impressive showing as she secured a fifth-place finish with a mark of 12:28.68. Junior Amanda Wilson (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka) cruised to a 12th place mark as she completed the course in a 12:52.06 fashion.

For the men, senior J.D. Barrett (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) paced the Green and White as he collected a time of 16:11.91, good for 14th place in the 71-man field. Sophomore Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) was not far behind Barrett as the Woodridge, Ill. native notched 16th place, with a time of 16:17.39. 

The Green and White will shift its focus to the Gill Dodds Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College. The meet will be held at St. James Farm in Warrenville, Ill., Saturday, Sept. 17 with a start time of 10 a.m.
