IWU Men's Soccer Win in Overtime

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Head coach Kyle Schauls will remember his first college win as the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team got a goal with 39 seconds left in regulation, then won just more than a minute in overtime, 2-1 over Wis.-Platteville at Neis Field on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Titans improved to 1-2-0 and the Pioneers slipped to 1-2-0.

After a scoreless first half, Wisconsin-Platteville's Keith Baenwald scored at the 47:06 mark and it held at 1-0 until junior Eric Gilbert scored on an assist from junior Carlo Fava with 39 seconds left in the match (89:21).

In overtime, senior Colin Rathe got his second goal of the year just 1:26 into the first extra session on an assist from Mitch Billimack.

The Pioneers outshot the Titans, 16-11, and IWU junior goalkeeper Erick Eklin made six saves compared to five by Scot Sibik.

What's Next?
IWU will host Alma (1-0-2) at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, as the "Clash of the Titans" tournament concludes. Wis.-Platteville will play Benedictine at 4 p.m. Alma and Benedictine tied at 2-2 on Saturday in Bloomington.
