SHENANDOAH, Texas – Illinois Wesleyan senior
Meg Stanley, the national champion in the 500 freestyle earlier this week, smashed her own school record in finishing third in the 1650 freestyle event at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, March 18 at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.
Stanley had a time of 16:41.93, topping by more than six seconds her previous mark of 16:48.04. The 1650 national champion is Emory University sophomore Julia Durmer, who logged a time of 16:27.82.
In other action for Illinois Wesleyan swimmers on Saturday, senior
Baylee Hoecker turned in a career-best time of 2:02.56 to finish 19th in the preliminaries of the 200 backstroke and sophomore
Lisa Cheng was 36th in the 100 freestyle with her time of 52.31 seconds.
The 400 freestyle relay team (Stanley, Hoecker, Cheng, sophomore
Claire Michael) was 19th in the prelims in a time of 3:29.62, matching an Illinois Wesleyan school record.
In the final women's championship team standings, Illinois Wesleyan tied for 21st place with 36 points. Emory University was the team champion with 645.5 points, followed by Williams at 445 and Kenyon with 381. Emory was also the men's team champion with 438 points.
