2016-17 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Teams
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- For the second straight year, Illinois Wesleyan junior
Rebekah Ehresman has been elected to the Academic All-District® 7 Division III women's basketball team and will be on the ballot for the Academic All-America® Team, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be elected later this month.
The 2017 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.
Since the program began in 1970, Illinois Wesleyan has had 122 Academic All-American® selections.
Ehresman (Gridley, Ill., El Paso-Gridley HS) has a 3.97 grade-point average majoring in business administration at Illinois Wesleyan.
This season she is averaging 12.1 points per game and a team-high 6.1 rebounds per contest. She was named "Player of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin once this year and was named to all-tournament team at Wis.-Stevens Point and was chosen as that tourney's "Chairman of the Boards" for most rebounds.
In her career, she ranks No. 33 in school history with 823 career points and is No. 28 with 401 rebounds. She is No. 18 in assists (208), No. 16 in free throws (193) and No. 21 in 3-pointers made (72) in school records.
Ehresman earned IWU's Mortar Board first-year leadership award for commitment to scholarship and service, is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta honorary, the student American Marketing Association group and was named academic all-conference.
The District 7 team includes players from Division III schools in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Ehresman is joined on the District 7 team by junior Mackenzie Campbell of Wilmington (3.97 grade-point average, athletic training major), junior Mikaela Eppard of Elmhurst (3.94, communications sciences & disorders), Wheaton senior Katie McDaniels (3.85, applied health science) and senior Kelsey Tietje of Defiance (3.77, business administration).
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District™ Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I); with the four teams, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
