2016 D3football.com All-North Region
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan senior
Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore was named to the second team of the D3football.com 2016 all-North Region squad, announced on Monday, Dec. 5.
Shoemaker-Gilmore (Kankakee, Ill., Bishop McNamara HS) became IWU's single-season rushing record holder with 1,143 yards on 197 carries, besting the old mark of 1,079 (Kurt Swearingen, 1977).
In his two-season career, Shoemaker-Gilmore is No. 10 in rushing yards at school with 2,011 and was named IWU's "Most Valuable Offensive Player" and was the winner of the team's "Best Skill" award.
Shoemaker-Gilmore was a first team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection as he led the league in rushing yards per game (127.9), all-purpose yards per game (180.6) and scoring (78 points).
A total of 18 CCIW football players were chosen to the all-North Region team with Wheaton having nine, 2016 league champion North Central with six and Elmhurst with two.
This was the 12th-straight year that D3football.com has named an all-region team. The squads, selected in balloting by North Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 211 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 76 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced on Dec. 16 in D3football.com's pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLIV.
