IWU Track Season Opens With First Chance/Alumni Meet

2016 Titan First Chance/Alumni Meet Results

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan teams collected six first place finishes at the 2016 Titan First Chance/Alumni Track meet on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Shirk Center, where a special presentation was made to honor Illinois Wesleyan's former NCAA Division III track and field individual national champions.

No team scores were kept.

Junior Amelia Glueck was a double winner for the Illinois Wesleyan women, taking first in the 60 meter dash in 8.01 seconds and winning the long jump [18-06.50].

Junior Karly Goodman was the winner of the weight throw [50-08.25] and got second in the shot put [42-06.25]. Freshman Angela Roman was third in the shot put [39-01.00].

Other first place finishes came from sophomore Madi Horack in the pole vault [10-11.75] and junior Victoria Drake in the 3000 meter run [11:21.90].

Senior Maddison Zimmer was second in the 300 meter dash with a time of 40.98 seconds and sophomore Rebecca Anderson was second in the 60 meter dash in 8.08 seconds and also finished second in the 200 meter dash in 26.81 seconds.

Senior Emily Diaz took second [35-00.50] and sophomore Rachel Osoba [33-08.75] was fourth in the triple jump.

The IWU women's 4x400 relay  team of Glueck, Diaz, Anderson and Zimmer got second with a time of 4:01.35.

For the men, senior Eric Rydell [6-06.00] and Patrick Foster [6-04.00] got first and second in the high jump

Freshman Antonio Feula was fifth in the 60 meter hurdles [9.00 seconds], junior Sam Powers finished third in the mile run [4:34.38], and sophomore Bryan Worby was fifth in the long jump [21-00.00].

Prior to the meet, the national individual champions (pictured above) who won their first place in years when the team did not win the NCAA title will be presented with a championship ring to honor their achievements.
Among those who returned were Max Leonard (2016 men's outdoor discus); Nia Joiner (2014 and 2016 indoor women's 60 meter); Tara Clemens (2013 women's indoor 800); Rachel Anderson Lyons (seven-time NCAA champion); Melissa Harden Peterson (2006 women's indoor long jump); Katie O'Rourke Mavros (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Gena Rawlins Melick (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Nicole Williams Reiser (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Gianina Taylor Baker (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Jason Dennis (2000 men's indoor shot put); Nicki Frank (1996 women's outdoor high jump); and Malik Jones (1990 men's indoor 55 meter hurdles).

In the meet, Tara Clemens posted a time of 5:38.52 in mile run was third as the winning time was 5:30.46 from Jazzmine Reyes of Aurora.
