Illinois Wesleyan Athletic Points of Pride
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Prior to the 2016 Titan First Chance/Alumni Track meet on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Shirk Center, there will be a special presentation to Illinois Wesleyan's former NCAA Division III track and field individual national champions.
At 11:15 a.m., the national individual champions who won their first place in years when the team did not win the NCAA title will be presented with a championship ring to honor their achievements.
Among the athletes scheduled to return are
Max Leonard (2016 men's outdoor discus);
Nia Joiner (2014 and 2016 indoor women's 60 meter); Tara Clemens (2013 women's indoor 800); Rachel Anderson Lyons (seven-time NCAA champion); Melissa Harden Peterson (2006 women's indoor long jump); Katie O'Rourke Mavros (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Gena Rawlins Melick (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Nicole Williams Reiser (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Gianina Taylor Baker (2004 indoor 4x4 relay); Jason Dennis (2000 men's indoor shot put); Nicki Frank (1996 women's outdoor high jump); and Malik Jones (1990 men's indoor 55 meter hurdles).
Unable to attend are Allie Boudreau (2015 women's indoor pentathlon) and Muneerah Maalik (2000 women's indoor long jump).
The track meet will begin at approximately 11:35 a.m. In addition to Illinois Wesleyan, the 10-team track meet will feature athletes from Aurora, Concordia (Wis.), Eureka, Greenville, Illinois-Springfield, Illinois Institute of Technology, Judson, Maryville (Mo.) and Washington U.-St. Louis.
