IWU Track Athletes, Team Win Scholar Honors

USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A total of 10 women and two men from the Illinois Wesleyan track and field teams were chosen as Division III Scholar-Athletes for the 2014-15 track & field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the association announced Friday (July 17).

Titan women who earned the honor were Meridith Beird (anthropology), Allie Boudreau (accounting), Emily Diaz (psychology), Amelia Glueck (undecided), Maddie Greybar (business), Jill Harmon (mathematics), Angela Herrmann (elementary education), Kristen Johnson (business administration), Nia Joiner (biology) and Maddison Zimmer (sociology).

The IWU men who earned the distinction were Max Leonard (physics) and Eric Rydell (undecided).

In Division III, a total of 420 women from 127 institutions and 297 men from 106 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards:
? Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
?  Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org

For the women, Wis.-La Crosse earned 15 All-Academic awards to lead all women's teams, followed by Wis.-Stout with 12, Wis.-Eau Claire and Washington (Mo.) with 11, and the trio of Illinois Wesleyan, Williams and Mount Union with 10 each.

The Illinois Wesleyan men's team has a grade-point average of 3.17 and was one of 99 men's teams to be named as a 2015 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 170 women's teams and 99 men's teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.

Saint Vincent's women led all NCAA DIII teams with a 3.65 cumulative team GPA, narrowly edging out Simpson (Iowa) at 3.64, Macalester at 3.63 and the 3.62 duo of Berry and Case Western Reserve.
Amherst topped the list on the men's side with a cumulative 3.53 mark. Goucher was second at 3.53, followed by Middlebury at 3.50 and both Washington (Mo.) and Case Western Reserve at 3.48.
