BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Jason Jones, a 1991 Illinois Wesleyan graduate and former Titan baseball and basketball player, died when the small plane he was a passenger in crashed east of Bloomington early Tuesday (April 7) morning.
Jones was one of seven people on the plane, all of whom perished, returning from the NCAA men's basketball championship game in Indianapolis Monday night.
Jones was the co-captain (with David Kunka) of the 1990-91 basketball team that won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship with a 15-1 record and he is currently ranked tied for No. 12 (with Paul Petersen) for most games played with 110. Jones also ranks No. 24 with 211 career assists.
A career .340 hitter in 109 games as a Titan centerfielder, Jones had his best year as a senior in 1991 when he batted .361(43-of-119) with eight doubles, two home runs and 27 runs batted in.
Jones graduated from Illinois Wesleyan with a business degree and had worked in Bloomington since 2006 with the Secord-Jones Wealth Management Group and Wells Fargo Investments, where he was a certified financial planner and senior vice president for investments.
Jones is survived by his wife, Lyndsey, and their children Jack, 10, and Kate, 8.
