Sara Daley has been elected to the Capital One Academic All-District® 7 Division III softball team and will be on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America® Team, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be elected later this month.
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The District 7 team includes players from Division III schools in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Since the program began in 1970, Illinois Wesleyan has had 116 Academic All-American selections, a total that is for 17th among all participating colleges and universities, regardless of NCAA division.
Daley (Homer Glen, Ill., Lockport Township HS) has a 3.58 grade-point average majoring in psychology (pre-physical therapy minor) at Illinois Wesleyan. She is batting .300 with eight doubles, five home runs and 26 runs batted in for the No. 12-ranked Titans, who are 34-5. A second team selection to the all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads as a freshman, she is tied at No. 4 all-time at Illinois Wesleyan with 14 career home runs.
She is a member of the Psi Chi honorary, a board cabinet chair for the IWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and participated in the Illinois Special Olympics Polar Plunge.
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the third year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
