IWU Alum Kindred to be Honored at Memorial Tournament

Dave Kindred, a 1963 Illinois Wesleyan graduate, has been named the winner of the Memorial Tournament's Golf Journalism Award for 2013 and will receive the award in Dublin, Ohio, on Wednesday (May 29) in a 2 p.m. ceremony along with Raymond Floyd, who is this year's honored golfer.

Kindred, who began his journalism career as a sportswriter for the Bloomington (Ill.) Daily Pantagraph, is scheduled to make an appearance on The Golf Channel's "Morning Drive" program at 6:40 a.m. Central time.

Previous winners of the Memorial Tournament journalism award include Grantland Rice, Herbert Warren Wind, Dan Jenkins and Dave Anderson.

Kindred has been a columnist for the Louisville Courier-Journal, The Washington Post, The National, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Sporting News and Golf Digest.

In 2010, Kindred was the recipient of the PGA of America's Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award.

The author of 10 books, Kindred has covered every sports event in America, most of them dozens of times. By his count, he has covered over 75 major golf championships, the first the 1966 PGA Championship.
In addition he has covered Super Bowls, Kentucky Derbys, World Series, NBA Finals, 17 Muhammad Ali championship bouts; eight Olympic Games (Winter and Summer) and eight Wimbledon Championships.
