BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2013-14 season by hosting the Titan First Chance Meet at the Shirk Center Saturday, where several individuals earned top-performances.

The women's sprinting squad was led by
Nia Joiner, who won the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.92 seconds. Kirsten Johnson finished ninth in the 300-meter dash, clocking 44.14 seconds.

Jill Harmon took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a finishing time of 9.35 seconds. Harmon also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 16'11.25."

On the distance side,
Maddison Zimmer finished the 600-meter run with a time of 1:40.07 for fourth place, while
Amanda Macuiba won the mile in 5:36.62.

The Titan women's 4x400-meter relay took fourth with a time of 4:07.01.

In the field,
Kelli Herlitz's leap of 36'08.5" earned her a first-place spot in the triple jump. IWU's
Jamie Gradishar earned fifth in the pole vault with a leap of 10-feet even, while
Allie Boudreau took sixth in the shot put with 34'07."

On the Titan men's side,
Jordan Collins finished eighth in the 300-meter dash with a time of 37.39 seconds, while Dan Krob took sixth in the 600-meter run, clocking 1:26.97.

Tyler Peterson ran 5:03.11 in the mile run for eighth place, and IWU's
Aaron Smith earned second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:06.71.

Jeff Toraason crossed the tape in second for the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds. IWU's 4x400-meter relay team took seventh for 3:40.58.

In the field for the men,
Eric Rydell took third in the high jump, leaping 6'02.75," while
Ryan Winter finished fourth in the triple jump in 40'11.5."
Max Leonard took fourth in the shot put (44-feet).
Victor Rhee threw the weight throw 46'03.5," for fifth place.

What's Next?
The Titan will take a brief break in competition before returning at home January 18 for the Titan Triangular Meet.
