2013 USTFCCCA All-Region Announcement

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior Carmin Beck is one of 560 student-athletes earning the distinction as a Division III All-Region honoree, recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the weekend's NCAA regional championships meets.

All-region is awarded the top 35 individual finishers at one of the eight regional sites across the country. Three women's teams earned seven honorees each in Johns Hopkins, Middlebury and Trinity (Texas). Finishing just behind with six All-Region selections were Chicago, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps,  Emory and Williams.

Beck is an individual qualifier for the 2013 Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be at 11 a.m. (ET) on Saturday (Nov. 23) at ithe nationally-renowned L.S. Ayres Complex in Hanover, Ind. The meet will be broadcast live online on NCAA.com.

Beck earned her spot an individual qualifier as she finished in 10th place with a time of 22:13.3 on the 6K course at the Midwest Regional cross country event on Nov. 16.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions.

Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.

Fifty-six individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.

PREVIOUS IWU ENTRANTS IN NATIONAL MEET: In 2012, the Illinois Wesleyan women's cross country team finished 24th in the national NCAA Division III championship meet as IWU earned an at-large selection for the first time ever. Beck finished 217th in the national meet with a time of 23:38.0 ... Illinois Wesleyan has had two women previously qualify for the national championships as individuals - Melinda Sprague in 2005, who placed 33rd in the NCAA meet, and Kerry Devitt in 2009, who finished 74th at the national meet.
