Longtime Illinois Wesleyan assistant men's basketball coach David Steinbrueck has announced to head coach Ron Rose and the team that he will not return for the 2012-13 season.

The popular Steinbrueck served two tours of duty under three head coaches as an IWU assistant - for the past 18 seasons, since the 1994-95 season, and previously from 1987 to 1989. He was associated with teams that won seven College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships and made 14 NCAA Division III tournament appearances with five final four showings and a national title in 1997.

A three-year letterman at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., Steinbrueck coached the junior college team at Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Mo., from 1981-86 and was athletic director for the final three years.

Steinbrueck, who works full-time at State Farm Insurance Company in Bloomington, is married to Mary Liz and they have one son (Kyle) and one daughter (Jordan, an IWU student).
