IWU Women Finish 24th in NCAA D-III Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's cross country team, making the school's first national appearance, finished 24th in the 2012 NCAA Division III cross country championships at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday (Nov. 17).

Senior Rachael Williams was the top IWU finisher, coming in 45th place with a time of 22:12.1 in the 6K race.

The Titans tallied 554 points for a 24th place finish among 32 teams. Johns Hopkins won the national title with 158 points, while Wartburg (221) and Claremont-Mudd -Scripps (233) took second and third, respectively.

Following Williams' performance was Elise Anderson in 138th place for a time of 22:59.5. Meagan DeSalvo was the next Titan to cross the tape in 180th place, for a time of 23:17.8.

Katherine Filippo clocked a time of 23:22.3, good for 188th place, while Carmin Beck wrapped up IWU's top-five runners, taking 217th place in a time of 23:38.0.

The national meet concludes the Titans' 2012 season, but a majority of the runners will begin the 2012-13 track and field season after a short break. The IWU track and field season officially begins Dec. 1 at the Titan First Chance.
