IWU Stands in Fourth After Day One of CCIW Championships

OAK BROOK, Ill. - After Day One of the 2012 College Conference of Illinois & 
Wisconsin Women's Tennis Championships, Illinois Wesleyan stands in fourth with 21 points at Oak Brook Park District Tennis Center Friday (Oct. 5).

Seven-time defending champion Wheaton leads the field with a team score of 42, followed by Augustana with 32 points. Carthage sits in third (26), while North Central (17), Elmhurst (10), and Millikin (0) trail the Titans.

In the No. 1 singles flight, IWU's Andrea Kerwin was defeated by Elmhurst's Annie Duggan, 8-6, in the playback semifinals.

In the No. 2 spot, Titans' Helen Alex fell to Wheaton's Kristin Boyer, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals round. In the No. 3 singles semifinals, Lauren Drawbridge was dropped by Lauren Schlabach of Wheaton, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, Alex and Kerwin beat North Central's Jenny Velasquez and Katie Hatch, 8-0. Drawbridge and Alissa Goetz defeated Elmhurst's doubles team, 8-0. And IWU's doubles team of Lauren Casey and Svenja Schroeder beat out Elmhurt's team, 8-3.

Day 2 of the CCIW championships will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 6) in Oak Brook, Ill.
