Titan Women Take First-Ever CCIW Title; Men Finish 4th

WARRENVILLE, Ill. - For the first time in school history, the Illinois Wesleyan women's cross country team earned the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship title at the league championships Saturday (Oct. 27) at St. James Farm, hosted by Wheaton College.

The IWU women's team tallied a low score of 32 points to take first place by 42 points. Augustana (74) took second and Wheaton (88) finished third.

The Titan men's team took fourth place with 124 points, behind North Central (19), Wheaton (55) and Augustana (62).

IWU's Rachael Williams won the women's 6K race in a time of 21:59. It was the first time a Titan individual runner has won the CCIW Championships since 2009 when Kerri Devitt took the title.

Following Williams was Elise Anderson, who finished in third with a time of 22:29. Carmin Beck took seventh, clocking 22:55. Katherine Filippo (23:05) and Cassie Anderson (23:11) took 10th and 11th places, respectively.

Don DeSalvo was the first Titan to cross the tape in the men's 8K race in 23rd place in a time of 25:55. Kurt VanNess (26:13) and Kyle Nottingham (26:17) earned 27th and 28th places, respectively.

Luke Rossi finished in a time of 26:20, good for 30th place. Kevin Kapolnek was the fifth IWU runner to cross the finish line in a time of 26:29 for 33rd place.

Illinois Wesleyan won CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year honors, while Williams was named the Female Athlete of the Meet.

The Titans will resume at the National Invitational 2-Mile, hosted by IWU Friday (Nov. 2) at Tucci Stadium, before competing in the Midwest Regional in Winneconne, Wis.
