Four Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis players competed in singles and doubles at the 30-team United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Tournament on Friday, Sept. 23-24 at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.
The region's No. 3-seeded doubles team of
Brian Piotrowski and
Brian Sorich won their first match over Alan Faber/David DeSimone of Kalamazoo, 8-4, before losing in the second round to Richard Brunsting and Sean Carr of Case Western Reserve, 8-2.
The team of Zach Lowry/Nathan Koelper of Wabash defeated
Aaron Guenther and
Ashvin Reddy, 8-6, inthe first round and Guenther/Reddy lost in the consolations to Loukas Peterson and John Stikwerda of Calvin, 9-7.
Piotrowski, who was the No. 22-seed, and Guenther were first round winners in singles play.
Piotrowski defeated Kenyon's Jacob Huber, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the first round and downed Joe Horvath of Baldwin Wallace, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 7-5, in round two. He was ousted by Gary Parizher of Washington U., 7-5, 6-3.
Guenther beat Kyle Kreps of Hope, 6-3, 6-4, before losing to Wheaton's David Buursma, 6-1, 6-4.
Sorich advanced to the third round of the consolation bracket. After losing in round one to Eric Bruynseels of DePauw, 6-3, 7-6 (7), he beat Ryan Ho of Chicago, 6-3, 6-0, before losing to Kenyon's Tim Rosensteel, 6-1, 6-2.
Reddy lost both of his singles matches, dropping a two-setter to Will Thieman of Ohio Wesleyan, 6-0, 6-1, and losing to Jonathan Ng of Knox, 2-1, retired.
