Women 8th, Men 15th in NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's cross country team finished eighth (of 38) and the men's team placed 15th (of 39) at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill, on Saturday (Nov. 12).

The Titan women's team finished with 282 points. Washington University (Mo.) won the 38-team women's regional championship with 24 points, followed by Wisconsin-Eau Claire second at 115, the University of Chicago third at 146, North Central College fourth at 150 and Wisconsin-Stevens Point fifth with 188 points.

Christy Cazzola from Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the 6K race with a time of 21:31.10.

Junior Rachael Williams of Illinois Wesleyan finished 23rd in the 264-runner field with a time of 22:46.20 and junior Elise Anderson was 28th at 22:51.60.  Sophomore Carmin Beck was 70th at 23:57.60, sophomore Cassie Anderson was 77th at 24:06.00 and junior Mandy Kompanowski finished 84th with a time of 24:12.70. 

Illinois Wesleyan's men's squad finished with 406 points. North Central College won the 39-team men's regional championship with 42 points, followed by Washington University (Mo.) at 114, Wisconsin-Oshkosh third at 136, Wisconsin-La Crosse fourth at 141 and Wheaton College fifth with 151 points.

North Central's Matt Perez won the 8K race with a time of 24:41.70.

Illinois Wesleyan senior T.J. Luby finished 41st in the 277-athlete field with a time of 25:56.40 and senior Paul Kwak was 56th at 26:17.00.  Sophomore Bobby Castillo was 88th at 26:47.40, senior Jim Fahey was 105th at 27:03.20 and sophomore Alex Lang placed 116th at 27:22.10.
