2011 CCIW Women's Tennis Championships Results
KENOSHA, Wis. - Three singles players and two doubles teams finished third and the Illinois Wesleyan team got third in the 2011 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Championship, held at Carthage College on October 7-8.
Wheaton captured its seventh straight and 17th overall women's tennis championship as the Thunder finished with a team score of 72. Host Carthage finished second (45), followed by Illinois Wesleyan (35), Augustana (33), North Central (30), Elmhurst (10) and Millikin (0)..
The top four teams from this weekend's event advance to the CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament in the spring of 2012, which determines the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.
Sophomore
Andrea Kerwin took third in the No. 1 singles flight with an 8-4 win over Cory Schillerstrom of North Central, junior
Helen Alex defeated Augustana's Brittany Reece, 8-2, to take third at No. 2 singles, and sophomore
Tara Casey was third at No. 6 singles with an 8-5 win over Mariah Bardo of Augustana.
Lauren Drawbridge lost her third place match to Krista Panko of Augustana, 8-1, and junior
Alissa Goetz lost 8-4 to Carthage's Erin Henrickson for third.
The No. 1 doubles team of Kerwin and Alex beat Elmhurst's Stephanie Ruff/Jordyn Hoover, 8-5, in the playback semifinals to advance to the third place match, which they won by an 8-3 score over Augustana's Kim Sawyer/Meghan Wethington.
Sisters Tara and
Lauren Casey got third at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win over Augustana's Chelses Lavin/Emily Kaczmarek and the team of Goetz and Drawbridge got fourth at No. 2 doubles, losing to Panko and Reece of Augustana, 8-6.
