DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Nine-time defending champion Illinois Wesleyan leads by 22 strokes after the first round of the 2011 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women's Golf Championship at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa.

The Titans lead with a team score of 317, followed by a three-way tie for second, including Augustana, Carthage and North Central, who all have a score of 339. Millikin is fifth (342), followed by Elmhurst (348), Wheaton (352) and North Park (424).

"We were really hoping to better our Sunday  dual score or beat our personal team best for the fall season and tied it," said IWU head coach Kathy Niepagen. "Katie played outstanding today & we had some help from the rest of the team. We are going to press tomorrow."

Only two players broke 80 for the day - Millikin's Brittany Holmes leads the individual standings with a first round score of 70. Illinois Wesleyan's Katie Klosterman is second (73), followed by teammates Megan Geraghty (81) and Rose Kelly (81), along with Carthage's Taylor McAdams (81).

Elmhurst's Ashley Beverage, Illinois Wesleyan's Rebecca Candra, North Central's Mallory Carr and Mary Kate Rohn, and Elmhurst's Amanda Wright are currently in a five-way tie for sixth place as all shot a score of 82.

Round two will tee off at 10 a.m. tomorrow and the event will conclude on Saturday. The winner earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship next spring.
