Women Second, Men Fourth at CCIW Championships

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's team had four runners in the top 10 for the first time ever and placed second while the men placed fourth in the 2011 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships at Montrose Harbor in Chicago on Saturday (Oct. 29).

The North Central women's squad won its third consecutive CCIW women's cross country title and seventh in school history. The Cardinals won with a team score of 30, followed by Illinois Wesleyan (47), Augustana (80), Wheaton (111), Carthage (119), Elmhurst (126) and Millikin (214).

All four of the women's top 10 finishers earn all-conference distinction. Junior Elise Anderson was the Titans' low finisher in the 6K race, placing third with a time of 23:05.41 and junior Rachael Williams was sixth with a time of 23:29.58.

Sophomore Cassie Anderson had a time of 23:41.67 to finish eighth and sophomore Carmin Beck was 10th with her time of 23:48.83.

North Central senior Alicia Zimmerman was first in the women's race with a time of 22:46.72.

The North Central men's team won its 38th straight CCIW cross country title, having captured every CCIW championship since 1974. The Cardinals won with a team score of 15, followed by Wheaton (53), Augustana (76), Illinois Wesleyan (120), Elmhurst (138), Carthage (158), Millikin (214) and North Park (250). The win was the 45th in school history for North Central.

Senior T.J. Luby finished 16th to pace Illinois Wesleyan with a time of 26:13.99 in the 8K event and senior Paul Kwak was 24th with his time of 27:05.89. In 25th place was sophomore Bobby Castillo in a run of 27:10.10.

Freshman Donald Desalvo was 27th (27:21.26) and senior Jim Fahey was 28th (27:28.89).

North Central's Matt Perez earned medalist honors, finishing the 8K with a time of 25:15.87 to win CCIW "Male Athlete of the Meet" honors.
