Women's Tennis Players Compete in ITA Central Regional

Illinois Wesleyan Results in ITA Central Regional

Four Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis players competed in singles and doubles at the 30-team United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Tournament from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at Kalamazoo (Mich.) College.

IWU had three singles players win their first round matches before falling in the second round.

In the first round, sophomore Andrea Kerwin defeated Katie Helfgot of Washington U., 6-3, 6-1, while junior Alissa Goetz beat Margaret Boden of St. Mary's, 6-2, 6-2, and sophomore Lauren Drawbridge handled Olivia Bouchard of Kalamazoo, 6-2, 7-5.

In the second singles round, Kerwin lost to Ariel Lewis (Oberlin),6-2, 6-3 while Goetz lost to Abby Younger (Kenyon), 6-3, 6-2, and Drawbridge was ousted by Bianca Patel (Case Western), 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, the team of Kerwin and junior Helen Alex advanced to the fourth round after a first round loss to Erika Lim/Alex Lim of Case Western, 8-4.
Alex and Kerwin went on to defeat Kalamazoo's Kelsey Hassevort/Paula Silverman, 8-5, and Wittenberg's Alex Cummins/Maggie Stewart, 8-1 before being taken out by the Ohio Northern team of Christie Gales/Michelle Tuma.

Goetz and Drawbridge teamed to beat Kelly Adams/Marianna Hronek of Principia, 8-6, before losing 8-1 to DePauw's Katie Regan/Elizabeth Young.
