TUNICA, Miss. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team capped its 2011 fall campaign with a second place finish at the 10-team Rhodes College Invitational in Tunica, Miss., on Oct. 16-17.
The Titans finshed with a team score of 653 (337-316) and trailed only Centre with a 637 score (323-314) at 5903-yard The Links at Cottonwoods course.
Sophomore
Katie Klosterman placed second with a two-day total of 155 (79-76) and junior
Rose Kelly was fourth with a 157 score (81-76) as both players were on the all-tournament team.
Centre's Emily Bachert was the tournament medalist with a score of 150 (73-77).
"It was a great day for us," said IWU head coach
Kathy Niepagen. "Sunday's three-club wind got the best of us as we struggled to make pars all day and our putting was off. Today we managed our games better overall even with tougher pin placements.
"I was really happy to have our team move up from fourth to take second for our last fall tourney. Katie & Rose really put an exclamation point on their fall season scoring and I was proud to have them make the top eight all-tournament team."
The Titans' season will resume with their spring campaign in five months (on March 16) at the Jekyll Island (Ga.) Collegiate Invitational and, as winners of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships for the 10th straight year, the team will compete in the NCAA Division III championships in May 2012 at the Zollner Golf Club in Angola, Ind.
