IWU Men 22nd in Wisconsin Cross Country Meet

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's cross country team finished 22nd of 47 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday, October 15, at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.

The Titans finished with a team total of 664 points as the winning team was defending NCAA Division III champion North Central with 49. Washington U. (Mo.) was second with 137, followed by Wheaton  (Ill.) with 154, Calvin with 156 and Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 158.

North Central is the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III.  The meet also featured third-ranked Calvin, fifth-ranked Washington U., seventh-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology, eighth-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 12th-ranked Augustana College (Ill.), 13th-ranked New York University and 15th-ranked Wabash (Ind.).

Senior T.J. Luby was the Titans' low finisher in the 8000 meter race, coming in 49th place with a time of 26:05. Bobby Castillo was next for IWU in 137th with his run of 26:55 while freshman Donald DeSalvo had a time of 26:58 and finished 147th.

Kevin Kapolnek was 157th in a time of 27:05 and Luke Rossi's time of 27:17 was good for 174th place.

Tim Nelson of Wisconsin-Stout was the individual winner with a time of 24:45.85, followed by Michael Burnstein of Washington U. (24:59.06), Matt Vander Roest of Calvin (25:04.43) and North Central's Matt Perez (25:06.99) and  Dan Kerley (25:10.72).
