BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior first baseman Casey McIntosh and junior pitcher Jason Pankau were chosen as the co-winners of the “Most Valuable Player” honor for the 2010 Division III national champion Illinois Wesleyan baseball team.

The Titans finished with a 31-21 record and the team won 11 of its last 12 and 17 of its last 21 games to close out the Cinderella championship season.

With 21 losses, Illinois Wesleyan is the Division III champion with the most losses in a season. In 1976, Cal St.-Stanislaus was the champion with a 33-20-2 record. In 20 of the 34 previous championship seasons, title teams have had fewer than 10 losses.

The 17 runs in the 17-5 national championship game win over SUNY-Cortland, is the second most scored in a Division III title game - Marietta beat Otterbein 36-8 in 1983.

Mcintosh (Columbia, Mo. / Hickman HS) batted .363 with 13 home runs and 63 runs batted in and set an IWU season record with 78 hits.
He finished his career ranked first at the school in games played and started (180) and at bats (704) and was second in hits (226), home runs (32), runs batted in (172) and total bases (373).
